The Lakeland Metro Chapter was recognized in June 2001 by the national organization as one of of seven chapters attaining "Healthy Chapter" status.  It is the first chapter in the 25-year history of NAWBO to attain that recognition in its first year of organization.  Healthy chapter status is based on the degree of attainment a chapter has in the areas of retention, recruitment, attendance at national events, program effectiveness, community action, and financial stability.  A new criteria for 2002 is diversity of membership.
